I getting a message says "MPC-HC has stopped working" appears when i try to play an ogg file because the ffdshow filter is not configured. How can i solve this problem to do that?

Answer by Saumya Sharma

To solve the problem of "MPC-HC has stopped working" when trying to play an ogg file due to the ffdshow filter not being configured, you can try the following steps:

  1. Open MPC-HC (Media Player Classic - Home Cinema).
  2. Go to "View" and select "Options."
  3. In the left menu, expand "Internal Filters" and select "Transform Filters."
  4. Locate "ffdshow Audio Decoder" in the list on the right.
  5. Check the box next to it to enable the filter.
  6. Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the settings.
  7. Try playing the ogg file again, and it should work without the "MPC-HC has stopped working" error message.

Starting from the basic version, K-lite Codec Pack supports the QuickTime specific formats (.mov, .hdmov, .qt), so it offers full compatibility straight out of the box.

Is there a portable K-Lite Codec Pack? For my Android, for example.

A
Answer by Alex Urbach

No, there is no official portable version of the K-lite Codec Pack available for download. K-Lite Codec Pack is a bundle with audio and video filters, as well as known media players, and it’s best to install it on your computer to have full playback compatibility for your files.

On the other hand, there are portable versions of K-lite Codec Pack that are released unofficially. I, however, would not recommend using them, since the packages are created by 3rd party users who might embed malware. Always use original software from the developer’s website.

Additionally, Android doesn't have codecs you can download and install. All the codecs are already embedded into the media players available through Google Play Store. I recommend installing MX Player through the Play Store application in your phone. That application has the capability of playing all the known video and audio file formats.

I installed new version of K-Lite Codec pack, but my videos now play with sound and black screen. What do I do?

A
Answer by Alex Urbach

When there is a black screen, but you still have audio, it means the player isn’t configured properly. Access the settings menu of the player you’re using and then try switching the renderer. Change the renderer, then restart the player and continue with this procedure until the files are playing normally. Additionally, reset everything to how it was using Codec Tweak Tool -> Settings -> Reset. The application is found in the installation folder of K-Lite (typically in Program Files. )

No, the software doesn't harm your system since it only copies its own players and codecs. However, special situations might appear when compatibility with the other installed apps and operating system is not known. Practically, this can't be checked since every computer is different due to the installed apps, OS version, antivirus protection, hardware components etc. In case something bad happens after you install K-Lite Codec Pack, restart the computer and press F8. Go to Safe Mode and then remove K-Lite and use something else instead.

Yes, the codec pack is available for installation using the package on the official website. I have downloaded a package and installed it in offline mode (network adapter was disabled) and Internet connection wasn't needed.
First, access the download page below (I recommend FULL version to be downloaded since it's most comprehensive) and then launch it from the download folder.

As you can see in the image below, I have reached Install phase without needing Internet.

When I updated K-Lite, the media Player Classic lost the ability to play audio to my videos. How to fix this?

Stephen Prastman
Answer by Stephen Prastman

This issue is caused by the wrong settings configured in the player's options menu. Open Media Player Classic, then go to View > Options and make sure you have the same settings as I have using the images posted below.

  • File format support:

Click to view alt="enter image description here" />

  • Audio Decoder settings:

Note: It's possible that the update cleared all the settings in the player's configuration screen.

Can K-Lite Codec Pack replace QuickTime?

S
Answer by Sean Hill

The standard version of K-lite Codec Pack can't replace QuickTime as it lacks support for some file formats compared to QuickTime. But the full version of K-lite provides the same playback options as QuickTime, so it is a viable alternative.

No, K-Lite is a codec pack comprised of many filters used to decode various audio and video files. As a complementary add-on, Media Player Classic is bundled with the K-Lite Codec Pack. When you install the pack, there will be the option to install Media Player Classic as well. For full support over your audio and video files, access the official website and always download the full version.

While installing, pick the EXPERT option to configure additional settings that aren’t normally for the regular user.
